You Need an Attitude Change

by Sarah Jenks on November 20, 2009

Hello!  I have just returned from a fabulous trip to Sherborn, MA where I was conducting workshops on staying healthy through the holidays.   The workshops were hosted by my beautiful mother in the house I grew up in.  Picture 2

The pictures here are from the workshop… and no, I am not singing.  It’s a totally embarrassing picture, but I think it’s pretty hilarious, don’t you?  And isn’t my kitchen pretty?

There were 40 amazing women at the workshops, and we talked about all sorts of fun things involving health around the holidays, from the importance of building a strong nutritional foundation, to cultivating self-acceptance, to deconstructing cravings (to name a few).

But I think the most important thing we talked about is making an attitude shift.  And since I know all of you WISH you got to hang out with us cool chicas in Sherborn, I am going to share this small piece with you.

It is all about an attitude shift.

I used to have a love/hate relationship with the Holiday Season.  I always loved seeing my family at Thanksgiving and Christmas.  However, I HATED how every single event revolved around food.

I used to always gain a ton of weight over the Holidays, and it made me miserable.

But things have changed for me. I discovered ways to enjoy all that the Holidays have to offer, without bloating up like a blimp by the end of it all.

My goal is to make sure you don’t get caught in the Holiday food trap this year.  Right now is the perfect time to think about holiday weight gain prevention.

Picture 1It always boggles my mind that the first thing people do when they go on a diet is put a scale in a prominent place on their bathroom floor.  We focus way too much energy on that lifeless machine.

If the number on the scale is one pound over what we expected, we automatically feel like shit, and probably will for the rest of the day.  If the number is a few pounds under, we are elated and feel fabulous.   This one act is completely dictating you mood for the day- isn’t that pathetic?
