I hope your summer is finishing strong. August has been an incredible month. I spent 2 weeks at my summer house and a week in Carmel, CA working on my book proposal (more on that later). All while my team was preparing (without me) for the next round of Live More Weigh Less Mastery and the 28-Day Challenge, which is starting next week. If you haven’t signed up yet you can join us for free here.
Now I’m not telling you this to brag, or make you jealous, I just want you to consider, are you living the life you really want?
Maybe yes, maybe you’re close, maybe you’re very very far away. Where ever you are, I’m going to give you the steps I think are key to creating the quality of life (including how you feel in your body) you want.
1. Know what you want: Without fail, during our first call in Live More Weigh Less Mastery, someone gets on the phone and starts to complain about how their boss is a dick, their husband never plans any dates and they have no friends. So I ask them, “What do you want your job, your relationship and your social life to look like?”
Most of the time they don’t have a clue.
We spend so much time thinking about what we don’t want, and no time thinking about what we do want. But we can’t make any changes if we don’t know where we’re going. I want you to write out your ideal day from where you wake up to who you spend your time with to how much you work. This exercise takes some time but is incredibly powerful.
2. Delegate: This one always brings up a lot of ‘tude. “I can’t afford help!”, “I should be able to do it myself”, “people will think I’m lazy and entitled!”. No one has ever gotten an award for doing everything themselves. In fact, the most successful people learn to delegate and create a support team.
Hire a babysitter, get a personal assistant (I have a great one in SF, email me if you want her info), if you’re an entrepreneur hire a Business Manager (mine is my sanity angel) and a great designer, if you work in corporate get an assistant at the office, next time you go on vacation hire a travel agent.
If money feels tight, mentor a young colleague in exchange for extra help at work, barter with a personal assistant for pre cooked meals or your old clothes, trade child care with a friend.
99% of the time, women who struggle with their weight do so much for everyone else, and nothing for themselves. They are so depleted that food is their only source of fuel, love and rest. Saying no, asking for help and having time to nurture yourself are the best ways to create your ideal weight.
3. Plan ahead: One of my main quality of life priorities was having a business that could run without me. Not easy. So I’ve spent the past year training my business manager to take the reins. It took a lot of work up front, and discipline to explain things when it felt easier and faster to just do it myself. Of course I still do all of the creative work, but Danielle can now do the rest, and I can go on vacation for 3 weeks.
4. Do small things everyday: Now that you know what you want and have created extra space, you have to fill it with something. Sure, taking 3 weeks off from my normal life was amazing, but if I was working around the clock when I was at home and then crashed when I went away a few times a year, my life would totally suck.
So I have a practice of doing something simple and wonderful everyday from slowly sipping coffee at a beautiful cafe, to napping in the park, to getting a massage. These little things have become my life force and the key to having an amazing quality of life.
So, I made this one easy for you… My LMWL 28-Day Challenge is going to help you create exactly this quality of life I’m painting here. Little joys, little adjustments, everyday. You won’t even believe how incredible you’ll feel as soon as we get started. The challenge starts on Tuesday so now’s the time to sign up if you haven’t already.
It’s totally free, and you can sign up here.
In the comments below I want to know, what do you need to have an incredible quality of life? And what’s the first step you’re gonna take to make it a reality?
Can’t wait to connect with you.
