3 ways to celebrate the Spring Equinox

Blog · Your Self

Happy Moonday, Happy Ostara, and Happy Spring Equinox!

Let’s talk about the abundance of energies that are happening today for you to celebrate!

With the Spring (Vernal) Equinox, today holds the frequency of balance and harmony as the hours of day and night are of equal length and after today the light will continue to expand, growing more frequent until the Summer Solstice on June 21st.

This sacred day also marks the threshold of spring, welcoming the opportunity for new beginnings and the fertile potential of planting new seeds of ideas, dreams, and desires (as well as actual seeds since this is the beginning of the planting season).

In Celtic tradition it is also known as Ostara, which is a celebration of renewal and rebirth, honoring the Goddess Eostre. Many cultures around the world celebrate spring festivals and holidays such as Easter and Passover, around the time of the equinox. For example, Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon which happens after the March equinox.

These ancient earth-based spring celebrations, rituals, and traditions influence the Easter Traditions that many people continue to celebrate today. The words East and Easter were both named after Ostara, referencing the rising sun in the east and the increased sunlight, and the beginning of springtime. Ostara is typically depicted with bunnies and eggs as they represent the fertility of springtime.

This equinox also starts alongside the new year of the zodiac wheel, which begins with Aries and brings in a season of fiery passion, forward momentum, and aligned action.

Here are 3 ways to celebrate the Spring Equinox:

  1. Journal out your intentions for the season and year ahead.

Let the fertile energy of the Earth inspire you to get clear on the dreams and ideas you’re ready to bring to life.

  1. Plant seeds or garden

Let it be a physical representation of the metaphorical seeds you are planting. Using the mirrored magic of what’s happening in nature will support your intentions coming to fruition.

  1. Create a spring altar

Amidst the annual tradition of spring cleaning, set up a sacred space for you to welcome the energies of new beginnings, potential, and hope that you are calling in.

Celebrating seasonal holidays such as this is a beautiful way of deeply connecting with the Earth, which will help you to feel, embrace and honor your wild, feminine soul. Which is exactly the work we do inside of Holy Woman.

Tomorrow we have our New Moon & Spring Equinox ceremony where we’ll gather in community to get clear on your ideal life, and how to actually create it. I can’t wait!
