Inside my underwear drawer

Boy oh boy has it been a few jam-packed weeks.  I’ve been traveling all over the place and hosted 60 women in Sonoma last weekend for the Live Free Retreat with Nisha.  It was certainly one of the highlights of my career.  The women really played full out and made some amazing changes.  Just this week we’ve received notes from women saying they’ve put their house up for sale, signed up for ballroom dancing lessons with their husbands, gave notice at their job, started a new business, are dating up a storm… the list goes on.

We laughed, we cried, we dreamed, we hot tubbed, we drank wine.  It was perfect.

When I got home on Monday night I was feeling quite tired, as you can imagine, and was feeling a little off.  When I checked in with myself, I realized that I felt so feminine over the weekend and well… not so much… when I got home.

I realized that although I am certainly feeling “all woman” being pregnant, a certain sensual spark hasn’t been as strong as it could be with my changing body.

I knew that I could probably meditate on it and convince myself that there’s nothing more feminine than being pregnant. I could spiritually, emotionally and mentally call on my inner vixen but…

I went underwear shopping instead.

This was my underwear drawer before… it’s a little embarrassing.

So I set off to Nordstrom to get my first (yes, I know) bra fitting.  When I walked into the lingerie department I couldn’t believe I had spent my whole life buying bras at the Gap.  I had the most delicious afternoon trying on pretty things and came home with a completely new undergarment wardrobe: 5 new bras,14 pairs of underwear and 3 night gowns.  Divine.

Here’s what I now get to discover when I get dressed every day.

In just the past two days, I have felt like a completely different woman.  I have my strut back, I look 10 pounds thinner (even though I am definitely not) and I am rocking my sweet baby bump like a set of double D boobs.

You see, when we treat our body like she’s the sexiest woman alive by dressing her in gorgeous undergarments everyday, that are just for your enjoyment, our body starts to access that deep sensual, sexy, feminine spark that we all have, but have been ignoring for so long.

Taking a small, seemingly insignificant action like buying new underwear is like knocking on the door of our feminine and inviting her politely to come play. Tweet it.

Give it a shot, and let me know how you feel on the other side.

I just bought bright yellow lace panties and I am really in love. It gives you a bit more pep in your step whether your single or not 🙂

  • LOL! This sooo resonates with me!! Awesome post!!!
And the contents of your underwear drawer?! SO CUTE!! Yay, you!!!

  • Victoria

    I GET this!
When I was served with divorce papers in 1995, I sashayed down to Neiman Marcus and put $700 worth of very sexy lingerie on his credit card. Then, I wore those very same sexy undies every day of my 5 day divorce trial!
They are old now, but the trophy value is still there, despite having re-married 17 years ago.
We forget that we only are treated as good as we treat ourselves!
    Rock on!

  • Great post Sarah!!! I can’t believe you waited so long for the Nordstroms fitting even after it was on Oprah all those years ago! LOL. it’s the best. You can drop a couple benjamins when you’re there, but you feel so great in those bras, it’s worth it!

  • Great post and so true! You’re a smart cookie, Sarah.

  • Laurene le Grange

Loved your underwear drawer. Mine needs an overhaul too, although Andre says he prefers me out of my underwear!

  • What a awesome idea Sarah! I heard the retreat was amazing, I’d love to go next year xx

  • Sandra

    Great idea!!!
    So sexy

  • Louise

Sarah, great post & I fully agree – inspired!! 🙂

  • Lali

sooooo true! I was at Neiman’s last week trying on all sorts of lacy little numbers and I have never seen my small boobs looks so incredible. swathed in the most gorgeous well-fitting bra, they looked like luscious abundant roses!

Can totally relate ! I went undergarment shopping on Saturday and boy oh boy was it one of my happiest moments. Felt sexy, gorgeous, feminine and so freaking loved. Walking across campus today, I just felt so good.

  • Natasha

Isn’t it wonderful!? I just went underwear shopping and I just feel delicious and sexy.

  • This is definitely on my list of things to do.

I have some bras that are super versatile (can be worn with a number of different garments and the texture, pattern, and color don’t show through), but I don’t feel really sexy and feminine wearing them.

I also had some underwear that had holes or the waist was ripping off. I just threw those out. I’d rather wash my underwear once a week and wear the same ones than wear something with holes. That just doesn’t feel like I’m doing myself justice.

Thanks for the reminder to go out and get me some panties! ;]

  • Sylvia Ferrero

Such a powerful post, Sarah. Your timing is impeccable, girl. 😉

Congrats on your Sonoma adventure. You and Nisha are on my bucket list for 2014, doll!

I love that you enjoyed this treat for yourself Sarah! I hadn’t invested in quality lingerie in about 5 years. When I got to week three of your 28 day LMWLChallenge, I went and shopped. I had to take 2 of my 3 kids along on the first shopping trip, but it didn’t matter. That’s right. This momma had a 9 year old and an 11 month old in Victoria’s Secret while I made my selections. I obviously couldn’t try anything on in the company of my escorts. I was THRILLED when I got home and everything fit the way I hoped it would. I definitely felt like I was living more!

Thanks for sharing, I love this. Your underwear drawer deserves not to have to share the space with socks.

I love lingerie! I have a confession, I worked at Victoria’s Secret for many years and as a result my lingerie drawer is my favorite drawer and I love keeping it organized, the rest of my drawers are not so good, I am going to go with the suggestion that I received last week. If something pulls, tugs, just isn’t right get rid of it! So I love that you brought this up. Thanks for keeping us thinking and living with passion.

  • My roommate and I were just discussing throwing away all our clothes and getting all new ones, but it’s such a scary concept for 2 girls who still fit in their high school clothes 10 years after graduation. Lol But we need a total refresher. I like this start small idea. Thank you for the great idea!

Dear Sarah, Thanks for this! It’s so funny you post this now because it’s exactly what I was thinking when I got dressed this morning. There was a time when I wouldn’t leave the house unless my panties and bra matched! Nowadays… let’s call it ‘eclectic’. 🙂 I’m very glad you went for the proper bra fitting. I often see women who are bulging over their cups or over the back strap, which must be so uncomfortable. There’s nothing like a beautiful bra to make you appreciate your beauty! Thanks for spreading the word.

  • LOVE this Sarah!!! There’s nothing quite like a drawer full of titillating garments;) Thanks for sharing!

  • Erin

Goodness gracious, Sarah Jenks, you are always on the money!! This spoke to me directly today–I was having one of those cry yourself to sleep nights last night, the “woe is me, I’m single,” which I usually NEVER indulge myself in…but I let all of it out, and this morning I woke up and put on my sassiest slip underneath my suit and strutted out the door. Your posts lift me up at just the right time EVERY time. I am so thankful I discovered your lifestyle blog. You don’t know me, but you are a big part of my life! A huge hug and thank you from Ohio. <3

  • Jessica

Love this! Thank you for sharing. I just spent a month in Italy and did a similar sexifiying 🙂

  • Candi

I’ve been saying this for years – you can’t help but have a great day when you are wearing awesome skivvies! 🙂 You did push me to go upstairs & clean out my drawers – removed a few things that were too small and made it easier to find what I wanted.

  • Hollie

This is so spot on! First week into LMWL program, I went to Victoria’s Secret to get something sexy for my 1st wedding anniversary. I was pleasantly surprised how enthusiastic and helpful the girls were at VS and they helped me pick out something I normally wouldn’t get. I can’t even begin to tell you the “high” I felt prancing out of VS with my bag and heading home. I was on Cloud 9 feeling so good that I did something for me and it was a success! Love your work!

  • Stephanie

I love your new undies!! I love underwear shopping and I am a firm believer in sexy-undies-therapy! <3

  • Megan

Took your advice and spent a couple hours underwear shopping this weekend. Not only did I get some pretty things but I also discovered I was wearing the wrong bra size. No wonder I was not feeling great in what I owned!
